Check the SSD information your Mac actually exposes
Disk health, available space and storage speed are different questions. Clarirove separates available SSD status from current disk activity and a deliberate read/write benchmark, with clear limits when macOS does not provide a reading.

What you can inspect
The SSD view shows available drive information, free space and current read/write activity. It can report SMART status as verified, failing or unavailable, and show a storage temperature when the Mac exposes a relevant sensor.
“Unavailable” is not the same as “healthy”. On supported M1 Pro/Max machines a NAND sensor is not a measurement of the entire SSD or the exterior case. Driver I/O counters refer to the current driver session, not the drive’s lifetime writes or remaining endurance.
Run a read/write test deliberately
The sequential benchmark uses a temporary 1 GiB file in a selected directory on the volume being tested. It does not open raw devices or overwrite your existing files. It requests uncached I/O and removes its temporary test folder on normal completion or handled cancellation.
The test requires spare disk capacity and performs real writes. Stop other heavy disk work, ensure sufficient free space and avoid repeatedly benchmarking just to chase a higher number. A benchmark is a workload, not a repair operation.
Interpret speed in context
Read and write throughput describe this test on this volume at this time. Background activity, temperature, free capacity and the storage connection can change the result. A sequential test does not represent all small-file or application workloads.
Current activity and benchmark speed use different measurements. A quiet disk showing almost no activity is not necessarily slow. Keep the same test location and conditions if you compare results over time.
SMART is not a backup
macOS may not expose detailed wear or SMART attributes for a particular drive. A verified status cannot predict every failure or guarantee that your data is safe. Keep independent backups of files you cannot replace.
If SMART reports a problem, prioritize backing up important data and arranging appropriate hardware support. Avoid stress-testing a drive repeatedly as a substitute for responding to a health warning. Clarirove cannot repair storage hardware.
Quick start
- Open the SSD view and check which status and sensor readings are available.
- Choose a test location with enough free space and pause competing disk work.
- Run the read/write test once, review the result and keep a backup independently of SMART status.

Questions about Mac SSD Health & Read/Write Speed Checks
Does Clarirove guarantee SSD wear percentage?
No. Detailed wear and SMART information may be unavailable through macOS. The application reports available information rather than inventing an endurance score.
Will the speed test delete my files?
The benchmark uses its own temporary file and does not overwrite existing user files. It performs real disk writes and requires available space.
Does a verified SMART status mean backups are unnecessary?
No. SMART is a limited status signal, not a prediction of every failure. Maintain backups regardless of the reading.
